On Thursday, we welcomed back all our families after the long six-week summer break, and what a joy it was to see the corridors buzzing with energy again. The staff were already back in school on Wednesday for a day of learning, focusing on creating a culture where every child can belong and thrive, as well as reviewing some important updates to safeguarding and medical procedures.

We hope you have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine we’ve been having lately; it certainly makes the playground a much brighter place to be. Whole School Announcements:
• As a school we will be celebrating World Autism Acceptance Month and this will start with an assembly for all of our children tomorrow. There will be further information sent out about how we are celebrating this month.
• On Thursday 30th April we will be inviting the children to wear their own clothes to school to celebrate the end of World Autism Acceptance Month.
• KS1 (Year 1 and 2) Class Photos will be on Wednesday 20th May.
• EYFS and KS2 (Year 3, 4, 5, 6) Class Photos will be on Friday 22nd May.

The LTM have been in to work with Year 5 not once, but twice! And they’ll be in again before Easter to continue their work around sustainability. In Maths Y5 have been learning about decimals, which can always be tricky – we’re proud of how hard they’ve all been trying! In reading and writing the year 5 work has centred around The Silver Sword. The Year 5 children have demonstrated incredible maturity reading a book with very serious themes, based during and immediately after World War 2.

Clearly the highlight over the last 2 weeks was the trip to the London Eye! What a day out! The children represented the school beautifully on the trip, and they all had a thoroughly enjoyable day out. They also got to experience seeing the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and the London Skyline. We also had the absolute pleasure of watching Dahlia classes sharing assembly all about the Fire of London! What an absolute masterclass – we are so proud of Dahlia Class and Miss Michael! After half-term, you’re invited to join the Parent Reading Cafe where you will be Spring has sprung… a leak! A very wet half-term welcome to come into your child’s class and share in a reading lesson with them – this will be on Tuesday 3rd March at 9am. A very important, exciting date is Wednesday 4th March when Sunflower Class will be doing their sharing assembly at 9:15 and 2:30 to make sure you have plenty of options to attend.

It has been a busy two weeks in Nursery! Our little explorers have loved learning about farm and zoo animals. We asked for a giraffe for the playground, but the office said no, something about the height of the trees! In Phonics, we have been practicing the ‘o’ sound. We are also using the NELI program to help us become amazing storytellers. It is wonderful to see the children using so many new words. This shows their great behaviour and hard work. Next week, we will learn about where animals live. We are so proud of our clever learners!

Happy New Year and a very warm welcome to 2026 and the start of the Spring Term! It is hard to believe that we are already two weeks in; time, it seems, moves even faster when children are happily settled and learning with enthusiasm. This is our first newsletter of the year, and our first week back was intentionally calm, giving everyone the chance to ease gently into routines, reconnect with friends and staff, and remind ourselves where we left our reading books.

It has been a fortnight full to the brim with learning, laughter and a fair sprinkling of festive sparkle, so thank you for your patience while we bring you a bumper edition of our weekly news. We began the period in fine sporting style, with some of our Key Stage 1 pupils proudly representing the school at an athletics tournament and returning with well-earned bronze medals. Reception Iris Class also enjoyed a magical trip to the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith to see The Father Christmas Show, an experience that brought stories vividly to life and reminded us all just how powerful learning beyond the classroom can be.

What a joyful and bustling week it has been here at Acton Gardens Primary School. Reception’s Lavender Class set the tone beautifully with their trip to the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith to see Father Christmas. The children returned full of wonder, excitement and more than a few ideas about what might be going on at the North Pole right now. Miss Richards, our fantastic EYFS and Year 1 leader, also hosted an open morning for prospective parents this week. It was a pleasure to welcome new families into the building and to showcase the warm, purposeful learning environment that defines our early years provision.

What a vibrant week it has been at AGPS! We began on Monday with our wonderful Year 1 Peony Class welcoming parents for a cosy and joyful parent–child reading session. Thank you to everyone who joined us; there’s something special about seeing little readers beam with pride as they share their books. Throughout the day, families also enjoyed our parent food-tasting sessions led by ISS and Ms Kisiedu, giving everyone a flavour (literally!) of the high-quality meals our children enjoy each day. Meanwhile, our girls’ football team, under the energetic leadership of Ms Dynott, headed off to Goals Hayes for a fantastic afternoon of teamwork, resilience and plenty of muddy knees; always a sign of commitment on the pitch!

What a whirlwind week it has been at Acton Gardens Primary, one of those weeks that reminds us why our school is such a vibrant, and ambitious place to learn. Year 6 started us off in style with their trip to the Odeon Richmond to watch Kensuke’s Kingdom, returning full of inspiration. They also continued their swimming lessons, making great progress and demonstrating remarkable resilience in the water. Meanwhile, our Year 5 teachers ventured to the London Transport Museum for specialist training that builds on the fantastic work in Year 4, proof that learning doesn’t stop with the children! Several pupils proudly represented us at a gymnastics festival at Featherstone High School, performing with the confidence and grace of budding Olympians.

What a fantastic week it has been at Acton Gardens Primary School, one that showcased kindness, community, and a whole lot of enthusiasm! We started the week on Monday with Odd Socks Day to launch Anti-Bullying Week. The playground looked wonderfully mismatched as children proudly wore their brightest, funniest, and most spectacular socks to celebrate uniqueness. On Tuesday, we continued the theme with our whole-school anti-bullying assembly, where children were challenged to “catch someone being kind” as part of the Power for Good message. We also held a thoughtful Armistice Day assembly, reflecting on the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Welcome back, everyone! After a well-earned half-term break, it’s been wonderful to see the school buzzing once again with happy faces and purposeful learning. This week has been a relatively calm one by Acton Gardens standards (which, of course, still means plenty going on!). On Monday, our talented music teacher returned to work with Year 4, introducing them to the junior saxophone — the sound of jazz drifting down the corridors was a real treat. The children showed great enthusiasm (and, thankfully, a developing sense of volume control!). It’s always lovely to see pupils exploring new instruments and discovering the joy of making music together.

We missed our newsletter last week, so this one’s a bumper edition, and what a week it was at Acton Gardens last week! On Monday, our school governor Naema visited to meet with Ms Hylton, our Maths Lead, to see the wonderful maths learning taking place across the school. On Tuesday, Year 3 enjoyed an inspiring trip to the Tate Modern, returning full of creative ideas and colourful sketches. Wednesday was packed with excitement as Year 5 set off early for their visit to The Living Rainforest, exploring tropical plants and exotic creatures before returning slightly muddy but very enthusiastic.
What a week it has been here at Acton Gardens, we’re truly in full swing now, and the school is buzzing with activity (and possibly the faint smell of science experiments!). We started our Monday with a lucky group of children heading out for a ten-pin bowling trip; a fantastic way to kick off the week with teamwork, fun, and a few very impressive strikes. We also welcomed our English Link Governor, Emily Chalk, who spent time in classrooms talking with teachers and children about their love of reading and writing.

What a week it has been at Acton Gardens! We started Monday with the last day of the Book Fair, which has been a huge success with children (and quite a few parents!) excitedly choosing their next great read. On Tuesday, our Year 1 pupils set off for their very first trip of the year – to none other than Buckingham Palace. They represented our school with exemplary manners, curiosity and a touch of wide-eyed wonder. It was wonderful to see them asking questions and soaking in the history of such a grand location. Meanwhile, Jasmine from Artis continued her inspiring workshops with Year 3 and Year 5, helping children to explore creativity, expression, and confidence through the arts.

We’ve officially reached the halfway mark of Autumn 1, and what a busy and inspiring week it has been at Acton Gardens! Our Senior Leadership Team hosted the first Full Governing Board meeting of the academic year, where we shared our ambitions and the exciting direction for the school. Alongside this, our corridors have been buzzing with excitement as the Book Fair came to school, giving children (and parents!) the chance to discover new favourites to curl up with. Reading truly is at the heart of everything we do, and it was wonderful to see so many families stopping by to support the event.

What a fantastic start to the new school year we’ve had here at Acton Gardens Primary! Monday saw Ms Patel leading the Headteachers’ Meeting, where she set out her inspiring vision and ambition for our school community. It was a wonderful reminder of the high standards we hold and the exciting journey ahead of us. Throughout the week we also welcomed parents and carers into school for our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions. It was lovely to see so many families engaging with their child’s learning and getting a flavour of what’s to come this term. One parent did ask if they could swap places with their child and come back to school themselves – we’re taking that as a compliment!

We have now completed Week 2 of Summer Term 2, and what a fantastic week it has been here at Acton Gardens Primary School! Our Year 5 and 6 pupils returned on Wednesday from an unforgettable school journey to Danbury. From Monday to Wednesday, they threw themselves into outdoor adventures including rock climbing, zip lining, and camping under the stars for two nights. The children demonstrated remarkable teamwork, resilience, and courage throughout the experience, making it truly the trip of a lifetime.

This week was a truly exceptional one at AGPS, packed with inspiring learning experiences, creativity, and community spirit. Our incredible Year 6 pupils showed real maturity and determination as they sat their Key Stage 2 SATs examinations. We were so proud to see so many of them joining us for our pre-SAT’s breakfasts, creating a calm and positive start to each day. As a reward for their hard work, the children enjoyed a fantastic day out at Gunnersbury Park on Friday, an opportunity to relax, celebrate, and reflect on all they’ve achieved.

It was another inspiring week at AGPS, filled with enriching opportunities and proud achievements across all year groups. The week began on Tuesday following the May Day Bank Holiday, and we hope all our families enjoyed the extra day of rest and relaxation. Our Year 2 children continued their swimming lessons with great enthusiasm, building essential life skills and confidence in the water. On Thursday, a group of Year 3 and Year 4 pupils represented the school at a cricket tournament hosted by Selborne Primary School. This week was a truly special one at Acton Gardens, filled with celebration, learning, and a real sense of community. On Monday, many of our colleagues and families marked the end of Ramadan by celebrating Eid with their loved ones — we hope everyone who celebrated had a joyful and peaceful time. Meanwhile, back at school, some of our KS2 children took part in a Netball tournament, showing great sportsmanship and teamwork. We were also proud to welcome our Chair of Governors, Pete Bainbridge, for a Design and Technology learning walk, expertly led by Miss Titus, our Head of DT. This week, Acton Gardens was buzzing with excitement as we celebrated British Science Week! To kickstart the week, students from Years 3, 4, and 5 took part in an interactive Science Workshop on Monday. Our students explored the wonders of science through a variety of engaging activities. The poster competition saw students researching famous scientists or this year’s theme, “Change and Adapt,” creating creative and informative posters.

This week at AGPS has been filled with exciting activities and achievements. Monday marked our return after the half-term break, and while it was a relatively quiet start, we introduced our brand-new state-of-the-art fobbing system. This upgrade strengthens the security of our school entrances and exits, reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding.
